University partnerships
Bergische Universität Wuppertal has numerous exchange agreements with various partner universities worldwide, through which you can come to our university for a stay of one or two semesters. The acquisition of a degree is not possible.
We are pleased that you are interested in a stay as an exchange student in Wuppertal and hope to be able to welcome you personally to our university soon.

1. Apply to your home university for an exchange programme at the university of Wuppertal.
2. Your home university will send the International Office the list of students it has nominated, using the Wuppertal nomination form, by email to incoming[at]uni-wuppertal.de.
Nomination deadlines:
for the summer term: 15 January
for the winter term: 15 June
3. You will receive a welcome email containing further information and forms, which you should complete and return to the International Office.
Enrolment deadlines:
for the summer term: 31 January
for the winter term: 15 July
4. Once you have submitted your application for admission, together with all the necessary documents, to the International Office at the university of Wuppertal, you will receive confirmation of admission for your exchange programme. With this confirmation, you can enrol at the university of Wuppertal. You will receive all the relevant information in good time by email.
As soon as you have been nominated by your home university as an exchange student for the University of Wuppertal, you will receive an email from the University of Wuppertal containing further information and a request to submit the following documents to the University of Wuppertal:
- Application for admission (completed and signed)
- Application for a place in halls of residence (if required)
- Copy of your passport or the front and back of your ID card
- Copy of your student card
- Passport photo
- If you have previously studied at a university in Germany: certificate of enrolment and certificate of withdrawal
- Overview of subjects and grades for previous academic performance (only for university partnerships)
- Enrolment form (completed and signed)
- Visa, if applicable
- Proof of health insurance (electronic notification from a German statutory health insurance provider stating whether the student is insured or exempt)
As an exchange student, you have the opportunity to take part in German language courses at our language centre.

The university of Wuppertal wishes to strengthen its international partnerships and increase the number of international exchange students at the university. International exchange students (excluding Erasmus+) can apply for a contact grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which is funded by the Federal Foreign Office and awarded through the International Office.
The contact scholarship is worth 550 euros per month.

1 March for the summer semester for stays commencing on or after 1 April of the current year
Scholarship recipients are selected by an internal university selection committee; the result will be communicated in writing. There is no entitlement to funding. In addition to previous academic performance, strategic aspects of the respective university partnership are taken into account in the selection decision.
